Before high school, I didn’t even know what I wanted to do as an elective/extracurricular, in middle school I did yearbook, art, piano and yet even with my love and passion for those subjects, I still did not feel satisfied. My friends recommended that I did tech theatre because it incorporated art, design and building in which I was interested in all of it. My freshmen year, I was in intro to tech theatre with Mr. Cobb and it changed my life forever. I learned new things, I made props, I designed sets, I loved the stage with my whole heart to the point I auditioned for the actual company the next year to be an actor. This year, Mrs. Thomas was our new JV director and I am so grateful she was. She encouraged us to work our hardest even if it came out harsh. In the end, it was her doing that created amazing shows. Theatre has changed my life for the better and I do not regret joining this company. I even joined speech and debate because of Cobb, because of his and Thomas’s support, I was able to state qualify in all of my events and make it to the national level. I have found a place and a second home to be apart of, and I am upset that LCISD is taking that away from us. I genuinely wish that the higher ups can acknowledge the damage their decision has done to our company and our community as a whole. And the mere fact this is happening because of “budget cuts” is just disappointing, we were able to create a whole new meeting room for the field house yet we weren’t able to fund 2 directors. We are the last speech and debate program of our district and one of the best in the state. This year alone we had 14 state qualifiers and 11 national qualifiers. Our theatre program has won thespians, trophies, medals and even made it to the Tommy Tunes finalists. I understand that it is too late to revoke this decision, but I will forever be grateful for these 2 amazing directors.
