Fund The Arts is an organization committed to inciting a change in school policy toward arts-related programs through vocal, symbolic, and organized protest.
What we need most is for Foster High School to recognize the fundamentally flawed approach in erasing positions, overworking educators, and destroying hundreds of students' development through their continuous disregard for Fine Art Programs.
Why this Started
On Thursday, April 23, students were informed that the Assistant Theatre Director position at Foster High School would be removed. This Decision, if upheld, would effectively destroy years of hard work and dedication to the art form by forcing both current directors to leave.
This Decision not only cripples Foster's legacy as an example of excellent theatre across the district and state, but also erases the Speech and Debate program at Foster High School, which is the district's last remaining program and one of the most successful in the state.
How This Affects you
Humans need art to survive. Whether through entertainment, music, gaming, storytelling, etc. Art is what brings us together, forces us to discuss and discover what we love about this world and each other. Though you might write this off as a bunch of weird kids going on a nerdy campaign, we challenge you to think about what your life would be like without actors, musicians, influencers, comedians, dancers, the voices of every kind.
Removing key roles in the education of young artists strangles their chances of having control over their art form. Given the right education and support, promising artists at Foster could grow into legends in their fields, become celebrities that new students one day look up to, and instill a new sense of school pride at Foster. Not only does this decision affect the arts kids, but throughout the school, this change leads to a school without love of music, meaning no more choir singing a national anthem on the football field, without speech and debate, developing politicians and public speakers are left with no outlet for growth, without strong theatre, there is no more heart for storytelling and creativity. thousands of futures left in the dust because of one decision.
